Mexico City is a city of neighborhoods, each with its own rhythm and character. When clients ask where to stay, I typically point them toward one of these four areas: **Polanco, Roma Norte, Condesa, or Juárez.**

If you’re trying to decide where to stay in Mexico City, these four neighborhoods are consistently among the best options for visitors, offering a balance of great places to stay, walkability, restaurants, and easy access to many of the city’s main cultural attractions.

As a **luxury travel advisor based in Mexico City**, I spend a great deal of time visiting hotels and exploring neighborhoods firsthand. The guide below reflects the areas I typically suggest depending on the kind of experiences each traveler is looking for.
**Spoiler alert:** Turns out, in a city of 22M people, there is something for everybody!

## Best Areas to Stay in Mexico City (In Brief)

For most visitors, these neighborhoods offer the best balance of location, atmosphere and walkability, but each has its own distinct energy and personality:

- **Polanco**: one of the city’s most upscale districts, home to many of the best hotels in Mexico City, as well as excellent restaurants and high-end shopping.
- **Roma Norte**: lively and creative, with a strong food scene, and currently one of Mexico City’s hot spots.
- **Condesa**: leafy, residential and surrounded by beautiful parks, with easy access to Roma Norte. Close enough to the action but also quieter.
- **Juárez**: a slightly more under-the-radar neighborhood with interesting restaurants and up-and-coming creative spaces.

Each of these neighborhoods offers a different perspective on the city. Let’s dive in!

## Polanco Area

**Ideal for:* Travelers that prioritizeluxury hotels, fine dining, high-end shopping and proximity to Chapultepec Park and museums.*

Polanco is widely considered one of the best neighborhoods to stay in Mexico City for travelers looking for **a polished base**. The area is known for its wide avenues, elegant residential streets and many of the city’s most celebrated restaurants. (Think widely-awarded, Michelin-starred [Quintonil](https://quintonil.com/?ref=the-vidatravel-collective.ghost.io) and [Pujol](https://www.pujol.com.mx/en?ref=the-vidatravel-collective.ghost.io))

It also sits beside **Bosque de Chapultepec**, one of the largest urban parks in the world and home to several must-see museums and touristic attractions, such as Museo de Antropología e Historia and Castillo de Chapultepec.

## Where To Stay In Polanco

Among the **best hotels in Mexico City**, a few boutique properties stand out for their character and location:

### 1\. **Casa Polanco**

Definitely one of my favorites, **Casa Polanco** ($$$$) is a beautifully restored mansion overlooking Lincoln Park. The property is all about **quiet luxury**; service feels personal, and the library-style lounge and terrace create a sense of staying in a private home. The hotel serves breakfast, but like many boutique properties in Mexico City, it doesn’t run full-scale all-day dining outlets, which in practice just means you’re steps from some of Polanco’s best restaurants.

**Perks when booking Casa Polanco through VidaTravel*:*
*Daily breakfast, USD100 hotel credit, upgrade upon arrival, early check-in and late check-out (subject to availability), welcome amenity and VIP status.*

### **2\. Campos Polanco**

One of the things I like most about Campos Polanco ($$$$) is how intentional the design feels. Much of the furniture, lighting and textiles were curated especially for the hotel by Mexican artists and designers, which gives the spaces a strong sense of place. The atmosphere is calm and residential, with several lounge areas for guests, and a rooftop terrace I particularly love. As Casa Polanco, my clients receive extra perks when booking directly through VidaTravel.

### 3\. **Kimpton Virgilio**

Kimpton Virgilio ($$$) is more of a lifestyle hotel than a luxury property, but the location is hard to beat. It is surrounded by cafés, restaurants and parks right at its doorstep. The rooftop pool and social atmosphere make it a popular choice for travelers who want something relaxed and aren’t necessarily looking for a high-touch experience. *Special perks are also applicable!*

### 4\. Wild Oscar

The Wild Oscar ($$) is often one of the more attractively priced options in Polanco. Rooms feel spacious and well thought-out, and the common areas have a lively energy. Considering how pricey hotels in this part of the city can be, it’s a solid option if you want to stay in Polanco without paying the rates of some of the larger luxury properties.

## Roma Norte Neighborhood

**Ideal for:* Travelers that prioritize walkability, restaurants, nightlife and a lively neighborhood atmosphere.*

Roma Norte has become one of the most vibrant neighborhoods in Mexico City, and one of the areas I often suggest to travelers who want to be able to explore on foot.

The atmosphere here is noticeably **more bustling than other neighborhoods**, especially in the evenings. There’s constant activity on the streets, plenty of bars and restaurants, and you’ll encounter more international visitors here than in other parts of the city. For many travelers that energy is exactly the appeal, though it does mean the area can feel **livelier and sometimes noisier** than places like Condesa or Polanco.

Roma Norte is also one of the best neighborhoods in the city for boutique stays, with many hotels housed in early 20th-century buildings that still retain their original architectural character.

## Where to Stay in Roma Norte

### 1\. La Casona Roma Norte

Set inside a striking **pink renovated mansion**, La Casona has a timeless feel. Unlike many boutique hotels in the city, this property has put real effort into its food & beverage concepts. It offers a newly renovated restaurant, a coffee and matcha bar, and a rooftop terrace that has become one of the highlights of the hotel.
As an important note, entry-level rooms can feel a bit more compact and some face the interior courtyard, so I usually recommend going for higher categories.

**Perks when booking Casona Roma Norte through VidaTravel*:*

- *Breakfast*
- *USD100 Hotel Credit*
- *Upgrade upon arrival*
- *Early check-in and late check-out (subject to availability)*
- *Welcome amenity*

### 2\. Parián Hotel

This hotel is located right above Pasaje Parián, a **historic passageway that now houses several restaurants, boutique stores and cafés**. No property gets more ‘Roma Norte’ than this. Because of the setting, the hotel can feel lively in the evenings, so it is definitely not for the light sleepers that are looking a peaceful retreat at the end of the day. All perks also apply to this hotel!

## Condesa

**Ideal for:* Travelers that prioritize *parks, cafés, walkable streets and a quieter residential feel while still being central*.*

Condesa used to be the neighborhood everyone gravitated toward a few years ago, now much of that buzz has shifted a few blocks over to Roma Norte. I always say Condesa now feels a bit like the **cool aunt of Roma**; still stylish, still very much in the know, just more mature.

## Where To Stay In Condesa

### 1\. Hotel Cuenca

Casa Cuenca feels more like staying in a beautifully restored home than a traditional hotel. The property sits directly across from Parque México, and several rooms open onto small balconies overlooking the park. With only a handful of rooms, the atmosphere is quiet and personal, and the interiors lean warm and understated rather than overly designed. It’s one of the nicest options in Condesa if you want something intimate right by the park and within easy walking distance of the neighborhood’s cafés and restaurants.

## Juárez Neighborhood

**Ideal for:* Travelers that prioritize *being centrally located while discovering a neighborhood that still feels a little less obvious*.*

Juárez sits between Roma Norte and Paseo de la Reforma and has quietly become one of the more interesting neighborhoods in the city. It doesn’t have quite the same concentration of cafés and restaurants as Roma or Condesa, but it has developed its own identity over the past few years, with a mix of galleries, independent restaurants, creative spaces and an energy leaning more towards eclectic.

The area still feels slightly more **under the radar**, which many travelers appreciate. It’s also very central, making it easy to move between neighborhoods.

## Where To Stay In Juárez

### 1\. Hotel Oculto

A minimalist, design-driven property that opened in **February 2026**, Hotel Oculto brings a striking architectural concept to Juárez. The atmosphere is discreet and understated, appealing to travelers who appreciate contemporary design and a quieter boutique stay. The rooms are spacious and illuminated. The location places you close to **Calle Havre and the surrounding streets**, an area that has gradually become one of the more interesting pockets of the neighborhood, with independent restaurants, wine bars and cafés, while still being within easy reach of Roma Norte and Reforma.
